The Synode Wallon was the governing council of French-speaking Protestant churches in the Netherlands. Formed largely by Huguenot refugees, fled after events like the revocation of the Edict of Nantes. Protestants were persecuted in France, so many fled to safer places like the Netherlands, England & Switzerland.

The book includes the hymns and materials which were officially approved for worship by this synod, an authorized by the church composite religious volume.

These are official decisions (articles) from meetings of the Synode Wallon.

  •   Synode de Zeist Sept. 1797. Art. 64. Meeting

‘’ There was a decision about introducing or regulating hymn usage’’

  > Expanding or standardizing cantiques (hymns) in worship

  •   Synode de Gorinchem, Juin 1798. Art. 73 Meeting

‘’Continued discussion and refinement of which hymns to include’’

 > This shows the process was gradual and debated

  •   Synode de Leide (Leiden), Sept. 1801. Art. 66. Meeting

‘’  The commission completed its work on the hymn collection’’

> Final approval phase of the hymnbook tradition in your volume
