This is a bit of a special item, she is Our Lady of the Pillar or Nuestra Señora del Pilar in Spanish. Our Lady of the Pillar is a title for the Blessed Virgin Mary, and is considered the first Marian apparition in the history of Christianity. According to the story, Mary appeared to the Apostle James the Greater in AD 40 while he was preaching in what is now Spain. The statue is associated with the Cathedral-Basilica of Our Lady of the Pillar in Zaragoza, Spain, where the pillar from the apparition is said to be preserved.
Our Lady of the Pillar is the patroness of Aragon and its capital, Zaragoza, as well as the patroness of the Spanish Civil Guard. Her feast day is October 12, which is a national holiday in Spain.
This statue comes in a sturdy cardboard travel case, the inside is adorned with quilted fabric. Behind the statue is a brown woven scapular necklace with a purple border and string.
