Prayer Cards 1912
Prayer Cards 1912
A set of three French prater cards that have been gifted before for someone's first communion. Beautiful artwork and colours.
First card: an illustration of Saint Anne teaching a young Virgin Mary to read from a scroll. The text is a prayer asking the Virgin Mary for guidance in living faithfully to divine inspiration, modeled after her obedience to Saint Anne. ''Holy Virgin, who was so docile to the wise advice of Saint Anne, grant us to live as''. ''To conceive the excellence and merit of Saint Anne, one must have regard for the virtues she practiced to render herself worthy of such a daughter, and through her, of such a son. Blessed among all the daughters of Eve, by the glory of the Immaculate Conception of Mary, she had prepared herself for it by a life of prayers, fasts, alms, and all kinds of good works... Stop at the one she made by consecrating the Blessed Virgin to God, at the age of three, and judge what a price this offering was, by which she gave a daughter to the Eternal Father, a mother to the Word, a spouse to the Holy Spirit, a queen to the angels, an advocate to sinners, a mother to all men. After such a rich gift, judge her power near God, Trust therefore in her protection; try to imitate her in the practice of virtues and especially in union and familiarity with Jesus and Mary. PRACTICE: Meditate on the virtues of Saint Anne to merit the protection of the Blessed Virgin.''
Second card: a text from the Imitation of Christ regarding communion. ''Lord Jesus, what delights flood the faithful soul admitted to your Table!''
Third card: an illustration of the Virgin Mary holding the infant Jesus. ''Mary, Mother of God, holds Jesus in her arms, who will be our reward.'' PRAYER TO THE MOST HOLY VIRGIN. Virgin, who brings light and consolation to men! oh, the most accomplished, the holiest of creatures! To whom can I compare you? You are the Ark of the Covenant: you are the stem of Jesse that bears the most beautiful of all flowers, and this flower is your Son! This Son is both God and man, and you are his Mother. We come then, oh holy Mother of God! to take refuge under your protective wings. May this son, Jesus our Savior, by your divine intercession, ceaselessly cover us with his mercy. Amen.
JACULATORY PRAYER - Oh my Sovereign! oh my Mother! remember that I belong to you. Keep me, defend me, as your good and your property. (40 days of indulgence.)
