Holy Card Ste Marie
Holy Card Ste Marie
An antique Holy Card featuring an engraving of "Ste Marie" (Saint Mary) with ornate gilt, baroque gold-leaf framing. The card was produced by Dembour and Gangel in Metz, France. The oval blue stamp on the back appears to be an ecclesiastical or parish distribution mark, common for devotional cards given at sacraments (First Communion, confirmation, missions).
Translation:
''My son, do not work to invent lies against your brother and do not invent any against your friends. Be careful not to commit any lies; because the liar is an abomination to the Lord. Lose the memory of the injuries you have received from your neighbor, and do nothing by way of violence. Let your mouth not get used to swearing, let the name of God never be on your lips and let slander not defile your mouth.''
