This crucifix opens to reveal an Agnus Dei ("Lamb of God") text and relic of earth from the Roman Catacombe Saint Callixtus (San Callisto). The prayer beads are known as “Spina Christi”, crafted from the seeds of the Spina Christi shrub; it is one of the plants from which the crown of thorns was reputedly produced. Besides this crucifix is a second standard crucifix.
